Iamlichus' channelling of divine beings
Of [the] hierarchy of divine beings which Iamlichus channelled, which would be closest to us?
Iamblichus
believed in a complex hierarchy of divine beings, which he referred to
as the "divine orders" or "divine beings." These included gods and
goddesses, daimones or spiritual beings, and celestial intelligences or
angels. According to Iamblichus, each of these beings had a particular
role to play in the universe and could be invoked through prayer,
ritual, and other forms of spiritual practice.
It is difficult to
say which of these divine beings would be considered "closest" to us,
as this would depend on one's individual beliefs and practices. However,
Iamblichus believed that the daimones, or spiritual beings, were
particularly important as intermediaries between humans and the higher
orders of divinity. These beings were thought to be present in the
natural world and could be invoked through various forms of ritual and
magic.
Iamblichus also believed that humans had the potential to
become divine through the process of theurgy, or the practice of divine
union. Through theurgy, a person could ascend through the various levels
of the divine hierarchy and ultimately become one with the highest
order of divinity. This process involved a combination of spiritual
practices, including prayer, ritual, and contemplation, as well as the
use of talismans, symbols, and other tools.
Overall, Iamblichus
believed that the divine beings were present and accessible to humans at
all times, and that it was possible for anyone to connect with them
through the appropriate means. The key was to cultivate the right
mindset and to engage in the necessary spiritual practices to open
oneself up to the divine presence.
